From city to coast, the county is set to shimmer this Christmas. We round up the best places to see the festive switch-ons

NORWICH

Don’t miss the light show of the year on 16th November, as Norwich puts on its sparkle and shine with its annual Christmas light switch-on. The usual festive parade will see Father Christmas weave his merry way from Norwich Cathedral to Gentleman’s Walk, where crowds will gather ahead of the big switch on by a very special guest at 7pm. Fireworks from Jarrold’s department store will then light up the sky in a dazzling spectacle.

After drawing in thousands of visitors last year, the Tunnel of Light will also return for another season. Running along Hay Hill by the side of St Peter Mancroft church, its 50,000 LED bulbs will create new dynamic light patterns and the addition of a new glittering tiara will make it the belle of the festive ball right through until January.

Another firm favourite returning for 2017 will be the outdoor projections on Norwich Castle. From 16th Novemberuntil 5th January, the 70ft castle walls will come alive with a series of 10-minute animations.

Further east, Wells-next-the-Sea will host its traditional lantern parade on Saturday 2nd December, starting at Staithe Street and heading to the quay to greet Santa as he arrives by boat. It will mark the annual Christmas Tide Festival, with businesses lighting up the town with their fantastic window displays and sparkling illuminations. Music, entertainers and street buskers will be around all day to put you in the festive spirit, and the evening will end with a stunning fireworks display.

Here’s where to head - and when - to see the rest of the county all lit up…
