Forgo the traditional flowers and chocolates this year and really spoil your mum this Mothering Sunday with a local treat
1. Great British Mother
If your mum is fan of cake or was glued to the last series of BBC’s Great British Bake Off, then Richard Hughes’ Cookery School, at The Assembly House in Norwich, may have the ideal gift for her this Mother’s Day. Norfolk’s very own Kate Barmby will be hosting a Classic British Baking cake class on March 31, as well as several other classes, all of which would no doubt make your mum’s day. Starting from Wroxham, experience the magic of steam through nine miles of Norfolk countryside before arriving at Aylsham. 3. Party for mum
If you think your mum deserves a good night out, why not treat her to tickets for Abigail’s Party at Norwich Theatre Royal? Revived four decades on from its original staging, Abigail’s Party is heading to the city from March 27 to April 1, with a cast headed by Amanda Abbington, who is probably most well- known for her recent role as Mary Watson in BBC’s Sherlock. The play sees the always-vocal Beverly and her estate agent husband decide to invite around their new neighbours, Tony and Ange, for an evening soiree at their home. Add in nervous divorcee Sue who is concerned about leaving her teenage daughter at home with lots of friends. As . As the young people’s party starts getting out of hand, chaos also ensues for the adults in a story mixing comedy, drama and tragedy.

4. Sweet treats
If your mum has a bit of a sweet tooth and a creative side, why not book her a bit of fun me-time, with 7 Surrey Street Café’s Cupcake decorating classes. 5. Among the flowers
Your mum doesn’t have to be “green-fingered” to enjoy a walk amongst the beautiful spring flowers in bloom at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, and this Mothering Sunday they are offering guided tours with the head gardener, to help her enjoy the predominantly yellow-flowering plants of wild primrose, skunk cabbage and daffodilsdaffodills. As an extra special treat, every mother will also received a free primose to take home and enjoy. Guided tour is 11am – 12.30pm – no need to book.

6. Relax and unwind
