Stuck for a gift for a petrolhead? Motoring editor Andy Russell comes up with a few choice ideas . . . hint, hint

Flip-flops to flipping expensive!

Porsche’s latest gift catalogue has dozens of ways to scratch that Porsche-related itch this festive season. For the office how about 911-shaped paper clips at £10 per box of 100, a red Motorsport computer mouse for £70 or a £4,500 chair made out of an RS model’s sports seat or a 911 Turbo wheel rim wall clock for £1,200? On the clothing front, flip-flops in Porsche Martini colours can be yours for £40, while golfers might like the £300 clubs’ bag, £20 sun visor or Porsche-branded golf balls in packs of three for £20. And for the kids, how about a limited edition 1/8 scale 918 Spyder for £4,800 or 919 Hybrid race car at £8,000?

Bond slots in

James Bond fans will like Hornby Hobbies’ Spectre Scalextric set (£129.99) with Aston Martin DB10 and Jaguar C-X75 featured in the movie. Recreate the thrills and spills of the 007 car chases with this high performance figure-of-eight track with leap ramps, side swipes, a crossover and bordered 180-degree curve designed to test even the most skilled racer.

A racy subject

Stirling Moss: My Racing Life, by Sir Stirling Moss with Simon Taylor, guides you through his motor racing life with an insightful and often amusing commentary to a collection of more than 320 photographs, many from his own albums. It takes us from his childhood to the height of his fame as “Mr Motor Racing” and then to the sudden end of his racing career with that crash at Goodwood in 1962. Available from www.evropublishing.com and given a special commendation in the RAC Motoring Book of the Year 2015, it is £50.

Stig to stunt driver

Former Top Gear Stig and Hollywood stunt driver Ben Collins is finding the perfect getaway vehicle in the DVD and Blu-ray, Ben Collins: Stunt Driver. Working on some of the past decade’s most critically-acclaimed action films – The Dark Knight Rises, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Fast and Furious 6 and new 007 epic Spectre – it features some of the most stunning cars in production, including Noble M600, Jaguar F-Type, Ariel Nomad, Ford Mustang, Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon Edition, BMW M3 and McLaren 650S.

Dashed fine addition

Philips has moved into the increasingly popular dash-cam market with the feature-packed ADR 610 and 810. Each has automatic recording which starts with the vehicles, collision detection and emergency file protection and instant replay to clarify responsibility on the spot. Footage is captured in full 1080 high definition at 30 frames a second, while advanced sensors offer clear low light images and good night visibility. They can also alert a driver, visually and through sound, when a rest is needed and the LCD screen automatically turns off for added safety when driving at night. The ADR 610 is £98.95 and ADR 810 £159.95.
