The early 16th century East Barsham Manor, reportedly a favourite haunt of King Henry VIII, is now on sale. Could you become Lady/Lord Barsham?

At 9,416 square feet, the Grade I listed East Barsham Manor, nestled in the North Norfolk countryside, is a Tudor red brick country house and it’s on sale now. Built between 1520 and 1530, there are grand red brick turrets and historical features including the coat of arms of its original owner still in place over the Gate House. There are six reception rooms, seven bedrooms and, to the west of the main manor, a three bedroom cottage - perfect for guests. Renovations were undertaken during the late 1930s to restore it to its original grandeur, but some areas could be elevated with a little work.

To the front, a gravel drive leads up to the house and the formal gardens and grounds back onto the picturesque River Stiffkey. The grounds behind the house are peppered with mature trees and flora; sweeping lawns are bordered with Yew hedges and flowering beds. An unused swimming pool also has the potential to be restored. The estate is comprised of 4.6 acres of land in total.

The village of Walsingham is one and a half miles from the manor – good for picking up groceries. But for a bigger range of shops, the town of Holt is roughly nine miles away. Other North Norfolk attractions include the villages of Cley, Blakeney, Burnham Market and of course, the sweeping, unspoilt coastlines. There is also a traditional village pub practically on the doorstep.

This resplendent country house was originally the home of Sir Henry Fermor and was reportedly visited by King Henry VIII who may have taken the barefoot pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Annunciation in Walsingham.

Well if it’s good enough for a King, then it’s good enough for you, my Lady.
