Scole Nature Trail Trust is celebrating a grant of £1,000 to help fund new facilities as part of the rural energy provider’s annual funding scheme

Scole Nature Trail Trust in Norfolk is celebrating after being awarded a grant of £1,000 to help fund new seating and tables around the park, as part of rural energy provider Calor’s annual funding scheme.

The aim of the Calor Rural Community Fund is to give off-grid communities the chance to gain grants for projects that will improve local life. With a total fund of £50,000, this year the scheme offered funding for 21 different projects, with prize pots ranging from £1,000 up to £5,000.

A group of volunteers formed the Scole Nature Trail Trust with the aim of creating and maintaining a miniature parkland with footpaths and a wildlife habitat. The footpaths have been an instant success with both locals and people traveling to the area to walk them.

The Calor grant will be used to purchase benches and picnic tables to be placed at selected spots around the newly created park.

Leigh Trevail, Trustee from Scole Nature Trail Trust said: “We desperately need seating and tables at strategic points around the park and on the footpaths. These would be for either a short rest or just to sit and watch the river go by whilst taking in the view or listening to the birds singing.”

“Calor’s generosity means that we can now fill the park with benches and picnic tables to create a real hub for the local community.”

Paul Blacklock, Calor’s Corporate Affairs Manager added: “As a rural energy provider, we understand that country living can be challenging and access to community facilities can be especially difficult.

“We set up the Calor Rural Community Fund to be able to give something back to these rural communities, and this year we were inundated by a number of deserving projects. We’re delighted to award Scole Nature Trail Trust with £1,000 to help fund this community project and we look forward to seeing the transformation of the park.

“This year’s scheme was so successful we plan to relaunch it again in 2019, so keep an eye out on our website and social media channels for updates as we hope to be funding more fantastic projects near you!”
