Here comes the bride, in a beautiful vintage ride; here comes the groom, playing a favourite tune. What better way to make your day extra special than include your favourite flowers, colours, stories, places and people too?

Fairytale, festival or futuristic? Seaside or sport? A meaningful musical or much-loved city? Weddings can be double the fun, and deeply personal too, when couples decide to add a theme to the marriage mix.

Weddings are all about celebrating love, and if what you and your partner love most in the world (after each other) is festivals or travel or football or cycling, then why not make that part of your big day too?

Themed weddings are becoming more and more popular as brides and grooms celebrate their love for each other at ceremonies and receptions which embrace their passions and pastimes.

Just about every element of a wedding can be adapted to incorporate your theme – from flowers, fashions and food to the invitations, venue and vows.

Popular themes include fairytale weddings held in historic halls, festival-style weddings incorporating music and glamping, vintage weddings with décor from a favourite decade, and weddings based around films, bands, books and hobbies. Celebrities have recently rocked Game of Thrones, Alice in Wonderland and Disney-themed weddings and the trends for 2017 include rustic, bohemian, floral, and outdoor themes.

Photographer Nick Butcher (nickbutcherphotography.com) has created lasting records of weddings across the county. He says one celebration took the town of Loddon as a theme and he photographed the happy couple at significant landmarks across the area. “It’s always a great privilege to cover any wedding and help create memories for the couple to cherish for the rest of their lives.”

He was the photographer for the wedding of Siofra Connor and Pete Beacock. They based their day around everything they loved. “It was a really chilled-out wedding. We had lawn games and a picnic, and everyone brought drinks for the bar. My sister did all the flowers and I designed my dress, which I wanted to be able to wear again, and to be sturdy enough to cope with a bit of mud!” They held their wedding at The Keeper and the Dell – a romantic and secluded woodland clearing in private grounds near Norwich.
