We all know how important your dog is but also how important the pub is... so we’ve gathered some great dog friendly pubs in Norfolk that welcome four-legged friends

The Bowling Green Inn

Church Street, Wells-next-the-Sea

Landlord records at The Bowling Green Inn date way back to 1673; it has served pints of ale and a bite to eat next to the red brick fire for patrons for centuries. Families are welcome, so bring everyone along for a visit to the pretty north Norfolk village and end up in this historical pub.

What’s on offer for dogs: A spot next to the fire after a beach walk.

The Coach & Horses

77 Manor Road, Dersingham

Well kept real ales are on tap waiting at Dersingham’s Coach & Horses along with live music, quiz nights and more entertainment. Order a pint of Woodforde’s Wherry, the pub’s regular ale, and maybe some classic pub food.

What’s on offer for dogs: Dogs are welcome in the bar areas and can stay the night with customers who opt for bed and breakfast in one of the inn’s cosy rooms (by prior arrangement).

The Willow House

2 High Street, Watton

Located on Watton’s high street is the 16th country pub and B&B The Willow House. Praised for its fresh and generously-portioned home-cooked food, this pretty thatch-roofed inn also serves cask ale and local bottled beers, which has earned it a place in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide for years.

What’s on offer for dogs: Four-legged friends are welcome, and you might even find dog treats at the bar. Dogs are also allowed in B&B rooms.

The Crown

30 Church Street, Great Ellingham

With a varied food menu and changing specials on the board to try out, The Crown in Great Ellingham is praised for its comfort food that’s perfectly portioned and served in an attractive and welcoming environment. Make sure to visit on a Tuesday for pie and a pint night!

What’s on offer for dogs: After a long dog walk, there’ll be a spot for the pooch by your feet while you sip on a well-earned glass of ale.

The Lodge

Main Road, North Tuddenham, Dereham

Surrounded by pretty Norfolk countryside – and the perfect place to bundle into after a long walk – is The Lodge. This country pub serves dishes comprised of locally sourced ingredients which are all made fresh to order in the kitchen.

What’s on offer for dogs: Surrounding countryside is perfect for pooches, who are allowed to sit in the bar when they’ve had enough of running around.

The Swan

Brandon Road, Hilborough nr Swaffham

The Swan is a charming old country pub, idyllically situated in the village of Hilborough and specialising in gluten free dishes. Visit on a Sunday for the ever-popular carvery after a country walk.

What’s on offer for dogs: Dogs can stay in the pub’s rooms and can sit with you in the bar. Make sure to book to guarantee your spot.

The Fox at Lyng

The Street, Lyng, Norwich

With low wooden-beamed ceilings and a big open brick fireplace to warm up by after a stroll through the pretty village of Lyng, The Fox is the friendly local that is popular with walkers, tourists and particularly locals. One customer describes the pub as “a real hub of the Lyng community”, and we think dogs are integral in any community.

What’s on offer for dogs: Dogs are allowed in the bar to warm up and dry off after a walk.

The Lacon Arms

Sea View Road, Hemsby

Located just a stone’s throw from Hemsby beach is The Lacon Arms, serving a varied menu of food. This family friendly pub welcomes children and dogs.

What’s on offer for dogs: Take your dog for a walk along the beach in Hemsby (depending on seasonal restrictions) before visiting for a few drinks and some home cooked food.

Nelson Head

Horsey, Great Yarmouth

Head inside this quaint, red-brick pub which serves up to 10 ales and plenty of ciders alongside comforting pub classics on the food menu.

What’s on offer for dogs: Dogs are welcome in the bar after a walk on Horsey beach (note: please keep dogs on leads and at a safe distance from the seals that populate the beach during the winter time).

The Coach & Horses

51 Bethel Street, Norwich

On Norwich’s Bethel Street, the Coach & Horses is a good spot for real ales, craft beers and if you want food, there are lots of intriguing ‘world tapas’ dishes to try. Located centrally in the City, this is a great place to duck into after shopping or a city walk with your dog.

What’s on offer for dogs: Bring along your dogs to the Coach & Horses, as are welcome to find a spot at your feet.

The Gunton Arms

Cromer Road, Thorpe Market, Norwich

The walls of The Gunton Arms are clad in unexpected modern art, and the well thought out interior design is perfect for a cosy meal. Venison from the deer park is cooked over an open fire in the Elk Room and locally caught seafood is served fresh daily.

What’s on offer for dogs: Dogs are welcome in the bar and in the hotel rooms when staying.
