Is there any other food that generates as much passion as the humble sausage?

Is there any other food that generates as much passion as the humble sausage? You could make a case for beer, wine, chocolate or cheese, but, in terms of polarised opinion and personal preference, it’s the sausage that is the king

2 portions

6 of your favourite sausages

1 large onion

1 small bunch of sage

1 dsp of plain flour

1 tsp Colman’s mustard powder

2 medium Bramley apples

250ml bitter

250ml chicken stock

1 tsp vegetable oil

1 Heat the vegetable oil. Fry the sausage to colour.

2 Slice the onions.

3 Remove the sausages from the pan and place into a casserole dish.

4 Fry the onions in the pan. Soften the onions, don’t be afraid to colour them.

5 Chop the sage.

6 Add to the fried onions.

7 Add the flour and mustard powder. Stir in and cook for 3 minutes on the heat.

8 Peel, core and chop theapples.

9 Add the beer to the onion mix. Bring to the boil.

10 Add the stock and simmer for 5 minutes.

11 Add the chopped apple.

12 Pour the mixture over the sausages. Place in a preheated oven 180c/Gas 4 for 30 minutes.
