Boy and vintage map of East Anglia from Gina Ulgen at PaperDraper.

It’s back to school this month and it’ll be less of a chore with our selection of beautiful items to decorate that homework area.

Inspire a love of geography or at least a wry humour with the English schoolboy standing on a vintage map of East Anglia. He’s armed with a hose gushing water into the sea, adding to The Wash perhaps. Gina Ulgen of Norwich-based PaperDraper sells retro and vintage-inspired collages, art prints, notebooks, brooches and small items. A5 print is £10;

ABOVE: It’s vital to stay hydrated while studying, but maybe these highly polished copper jugs are too lovely to use for water - they’d make gorgeous pen tidies. Norfolk-based Holly Riggs sources used copper and brass items, and strips off old lacquer before polishing to a high shine. Copper and brass cider jug pair, £20, or selection from £12;

Every student’s desk needs a light, and the lightboxes from Norwich University of the Arts graduate Amber Stefani will certainly fire the imagination. Her detailed, iridescent table lamps use reclaimed oak, ash, walnut and birch, and are inspired by stained glass, botanical elements and flowers, from £89;

Keep the desk clutter-free and pop those must do homework notes and school day pictures on a bulletin board. Eleanor Jones creates memo boards, £20, at her Wymondham studio in any colour and fabric combination;

Keep those blazers and school coats tidy on a coat hook made from a racehorse’s shoe. Shaped and polished by upcycler and craftsman David Meddings, from south Norfolk, a pair for £19.95;

Taking and making notes is more of a pleasure in a beautiful book. Norwich’s Fenner Benedict uses the highest quality leather and hand tools from world class toolmakers to hand cut and craft notebook covers, pencil and pen rolls and other stationery items. They are available in multiple sizes and different colour options. Traveller notebook covers, from £49;
