Beautiful bride

Alex Arnes had imagined a beach, barbecue and barn wedding – but ended up falling in love with a smart and sophisticated hotel ceremony. Her mother made her cake and did the flowers, and Alex and bridegroom Tony Kane made sure their personalities were centre-stage, with music from Norwich buskers and a crepe van and barbecue too. Read more about their wonderful wedding day in the latest Norfolk and Suffolk Bride magazine. The 2014 edition is in shops now and is packed with ideas, inspiration, tips and trends - and 21 real-life wedding stories.

Read Jake Humphrey’s thoughts on love and marriage, meet the bride who was rowed to her reception across Diss Mere and find out about some of Norfolk’s newest venues. Norfolk and Suffolk Bride is £4.70 from your newsagent or from EDP offices. www.weddingsite.co.uk

Love and luck

Best friends Tom Allen and Gina Pearce from Norwich are about to become husband and wife, after winning a wonderful £10,000 wedding at Brasted’s at Framingham Pigot in a very special prize draw.

The couple, who are both 31, met through work 13 years ago. They had booked their April wedding at Brasted’s, east of Norwich, and they were included in a draw of everyone who had booked a wedding in 2014 at the venue. Tom and Gina were thrilled when their names were picked out of the hat in the draw to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Brasted’s. Congratulations to the lucky couple!

And now for something a bit different . . .

Try Rock Your Frock – where brides are booking a photo shoot in their beloved dress weeks, months, or even years after the big day. Instead of gliding down the aisle and parading around the dance floor, brides go paddling in the sea, hiking up mountains, drinking in a favourite pub or walking their pet dogs through muddy woodland. It is another chance to be photographed in your stunning dress, in more relaxed surroundings.

Or how about a “duo” wedding, where the official register bit is done in an officially licensed room, but the ceremony takes place outside – either before or afterwards? There are some 120 licensed venues around the county; take a look at the Norfolk County Council for more information at www.norfolk.gov.uk/Community_and_living/Registration_services/ceremonies.
