This is a wonderful view from a track near St Mary’s Church, which looks right out towards the Holkham estate. I always take the dogs for a walk along here. When I first moved to South Creake 22 years ago, my cottage was right in the shadow of the church. I was putting my school library books on the shelves one day when I came across a history of Norfolk that I had been given as a school music prize. Inside was a bookmark of South Creake parish church – I had been here when I was perhaps about nine years old and had no memory of it.

The Yorke Trust Summer Opera celebrated its 30th anniversary with performances of Armide by Gluck, at St Mary’s Church, South Creake on July 22, 24, 25, 26 at 7.30pm. The students – aspiring musicians, national and international – are coached by a team of distinguished tutors who largely give their time and expertise free of charge so the students can be offered the course on merit and potential rather than on ability to pay.
