In my bag . . .

Running two busy Norfolk pubs and restaurants, Vikki King’s handbag is very much a mobile office as she flits between businesses and keeps on top of family life.
A graduate of City College Norwich’s Hotel School, Vikki has worked in hospitality management ever since, firstly taking on the Lodge at Tuddenham, and recently The Fox at Lyng with her husband Gavin Hunt.
“I left City College and moved to London where I worked across the industry, but when I had my children I decided to move home. When I took on The Lodge I was a single mum and, although I knew it would be hard work, I thought it made sense for family life as I would be living where I worked.”
Wearing black most of the time for work she says she likes to use her bags to add a splash of colour: “My handbags tend to be really bright and bold – my current one is fantastic lime Anne Klein bag and it is roomy to make sure I can cram everything in. At the moment it is full of fliers for our three-day music and beer festival which starts on July 18. I am throwing them at everyone I see.”
Purse, Accessorize, £16
This was a present from a friend and I love having a brightly coloured, big purse. It contains pictures of my children from every year since pre-school – they are now 15 and 18 – plus I always carry lots of business cards.
iPhone 4s, prices vary according to contract.
I have really embraced social media and think it is invaluable for any business, especially Twitter. If a really nice dish is coming out of the kitchen I will snap it on my phone, post it and talk about the ingredients, the suppliers – it is a great way to connect with people.
Lipstick, Clinique Long Last Glosswear, SPF 15, £16.
I always have a lipstick in my bag and although I am not fussy about brands, I do like Clinique. You can pop on a bit of lipstick and it gives you an instant boost.
Hair bands, from 99p
I am always losing them so I tend to buy a huge pack of cheap ones and keep several in my bag. Even if I am not working, I often find myself in the kitchen sorting something out, so I need to be able to tie back my hair.
Instant hand sanitiser, Wilkinsons, from 50p.
Because I have worked in hospitality for so many years it is just ingrained in me to always make sure my hands are clean. Whether I am at work or just out and about, I think it is good practice.
And a little something else . . .
I am a chocolate addict, whether it is a nice bar of chocolate or a bag of Buttons. Sometimes I am so busy, I realise I haven’t eaten, so I reach for my emergency chocolate in the bag. I know it’s bad, but it gives me a little boost until I eat.
