he queens of beauty and Norfolk’s own YouTube sensations, Sam and Nic Chapman have launched their guide to your face
Sam and Nic Chapman are the expert make-up artists behind the popular YouTube channel Pixiwoo. Providing make-up demonstrations for a wide-range of styles, from everyday specials and costume make-up to classic evening looks and recreation of celebrity looks, Pixiwoo has more than two million subscribers across the world.
Despite their worldwide fame the sisters are keen to keep grounded as they both live and work in Norfolk, and chose the Norwich department store Jarrold’s (where both women once worked), alongside the likes of Selfridges in London, to launch their first book. Called FACE, the book is being described as the ultimate beauty must-have, and includes advice, techniques and top tips for lips, eyes, lashes, brows and skin.
“I hope people find it a really beautiful book that they can put on their coffee table,” says Nic, “but when their friends come round they can all pick it up and learn something from it.”
Sam admits: “We honestly didn’t realize how much effort goes into making a book. It’s a really hard process and to get it exactly how we wanted it took time.”
The women place the reason for their love of make-up with their aunt, a make-up artist who worked with clients such as David Bowie and Princess Diana. “She was always given loads of really good make-up and would bring it round to our house in a big box and we got to go through it!” Sam explains. “It became the obvious choice of career for us to go into.”
Both Sam and Nic trained at King’s Lynn College. They are credited with launching the concept of online make-up vlogging which has become a worldwide phenomenon, and the Chapman sisters have worked on famous faces - from Isabeli Fontani, the Brazilian supermodel, to celebrity chef Jamie Oliver who they made-up to look like Madonna as part of YouTube’s seventh birthday celebrations! Nic admits though, it’s not always the famous people they enjoy working with the most.
“My favourite people to make-up are those that have suffered with cancer or illness, because you’re helping them, whether it’s teaching them how to draw their brows back in or blusher to give more colour.”
As well as promoting Pixiwoo, Sam and Nic are also behind the Real Techniques international make-up brushes range. Despite their work taking them around the world, the sisters both admit that family is the most important thing, and can frequently be found in the company of their brothers Jim Chapman, who is married to another Norfolk YouTube sensation Tanya Burr, and John Chapman of Lean Machines personal trainers.
